How do I select a smaller clip and how do I move specific bits of vocal?

I'm trying to silence some sections that are smaller than the 4 blocks on the grid, how do I make it take only 1 block?

Also, can I nudge the vocal so that for example the S's line up without having to re-record?

On the top you have the snap controls, to turn snap on and off click the button that looks like this >|<, Then if snap is on you can select either "Bar / Beat / Quantize. You have 4 "blocks" because you probably have the time signature set at 4/4. Each one represents a beat. So if you want to make something smaller select beat. If you just need to nudge something turn off snap and you can put it anywhere.
