Cubase LE Help

I have scoured the internet and found nothing that has helped my plight!

I have been running Cubase LE on my MacBook for about a year and have had minor crashes but nothing that quitting and then reopening Cubase couldn't fix.

Yet, recently I have been running Reason 4.0 on my mac and ever since then Cubase will not run. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both programs. Cubase begins to start up and as it says its loading VST's on the little Cubase startup screen, it crashes and I get an error report.

It has been suggested that a VST might be causing this whole conundrum, but for the life of me I haven't been able to figure out how to clear out any VST's I may have downloaded from the internet.

My biggest fear is that this is all caused by Reason, I know many people have had trouble running the two together but I feel as if I should be able to at least have both of them on my computer.

So can anyone help diagnose my problem and help me fix it? If it involves clearing out VST's I downloaded how do I do this?

If it helps, I could post the problem details I get when Cubase crashes

I use Windows but this should work for Mac:

Locate the folder (or folders) that is set as the VST plugin folder in Cubase and move it to another location so that Cubase won't be able to read any VSTs. This should help eliminate (or not) whether the problem is with plugins. It would be better to do this than to delete your VSTs as chances are you will want to keep them :)

If Cubase loads up ok after moving the folder then this means that there is a problem with a plugin in which case you need to consider which plugin may be causing this problem.

I've never used Reason so I don't even know if it uses VST plugins but if it does you need to check whether it has installed VST plugins into the Cubase plugins folder and if so then it is likely it is these VSTs that are causing the problem.

Oh and could you post the error log you mentioned?

Thanks,

I am not the most enlightened person in terms of audio recording and technology but I do not believe Reason is involved in any type of VST. Yet, as cubase Le loads and the lower left hand corner box that reads "initializing:(insert various parts here)" it always crashes as it reads "initializing:VST"

I'll give the folder thing a shot when I get a bit more time. Finals are bogging me down.

Here are the "problem details" (this is long, idk how to best post this):

Hmmm. I would still try moving the folder. When Cubase says Initialising VST, VST may not necessarily refer to plugins but the actual Virtual Studio Technology system of which Cubase is based so perhaps Reason's ReWire (this is just knowledge I've heard from others) may be conflicting. Perhaps another user can interpret that error message as it's incoherent to me.

Dremits, this is somewhat of what I have been thinking, except that when I open Cubase I quit Reason and it still does not work. I am severely hoping that having Reason's software on my computer does not conflict with Cubase's software.

And yes, I did recieve Cubase LE with a hardware package for an Alesis Firewire Mixer

Probably a dumb question but do you have your mixer installed on the mac?

You should update your drivers:
http://www.alesis.com/contentmgr/showdetails.php/id/1171/tt/5

If the DVD that came with your Alesis product includes the code "7-22-0021-B" in small type at the bottom of its printed text, you have CubaseLE4 and can obtain a free update to version 4.1.2 directly from Steinberg at http://www.steinberg.net/index.php?id=880&L=1.html. This update fixes bugs and adds new features. It is recommended for all users.

Thanks,

I was having problems running Cubase LE 4 on my PPC iMac G5, and the only thing I did was to change the offending plugin that wasn´t allowing me to open up the program (in my case, it was the BIAS Freq-4 Plugin).

After I changed the location of the plugin on my folders it had problems with another plugin. I changed the location of that one also.

After that change, it opened up normally.

Thanks a lot dremits!!! You really saved me on this one!!!

Greetings to everybody from Nuevo Laredo, México!!!
