changing MIDI track sounds with Halion in C-7

I've imported a MIDI file comprised of 4 tracks. I have duplicated three of these and now want to start fooling around with various sounds/voices/programs/whatever on each track. I've spent two days with Youtube tutorials and the C-7 Ops Manual but, can't find anything that specifically addresses changing track sounds on an existing MIDI file. It can't be all that complicated but, it's got me beat....so far. Can I cut the original tracks into parts and assign a different sound to each part rather that duplicating the whole track; or should I just add different sounds to each track and use the faders to swap the sounds?
