To create a new session:
1 If Pro Tools is not already running, launch
Pro Tools.

No, really? We can't create a new session without launching Pro Tools? Damn...

I guess that you could create a .ptx file outside of Pro Tools and then load it or something...

Actually, as difficult as it might be to believe, they omitted several steps:

If you aren't already awake, wake up.
If you don't already have a computing device, go buy one.
If you haven't already legally purchased Pro Tools, purchase it.
If you haven't already installed your legally-purchased copy of Pro Tools on your computing device, install it.
If Pro Tools is not already running, launch Pro Tools.
If you haven't already registered your legally-purchased, installed, and launched copy of Pro Tools, register it.

There are a lot more steps after that, but I think you get the drift!
