From experience and a bit of digging it seems there are a few tricks to try to get PT 8 installed on Windows 7. First you need to download the update to PT 8.0.4 or higher as those are the only versions compatible with windows 7. A trick I've read about is to install the original PT 8 as administrator and when it asks you to connect the hardware, don't ye,t just click okay. Finish the install if possible and reboot. Then run the updater and when it asks for hardware then connect it, and hopefully all goes well. Also try uninstalling internet explorer if its version 8 and retry. There was a known bug with that, not sure if it has been fixed in IE 9 though.
