recording drums on FD8

This question is probably not the most difficult but I'm going to ask in light of my ignorance. I have three mikes that I'm running through a compressor and into inputs 6,7, and 8 and I would like these to be recorded on to tracks 2 and three. I already have guitar and bass on tracks 1 and 4. When I try to record I end up with not only the drums on tracks 3 and 2 but also the stuff from tracks 1 and 4. How do I set the FD8 such that I can record onto tracks 2 and 3 while listening to 1 and 4 without having data from 1 and 4 getting ping-ponged to 2 and 3 in the process. Also if anyone has any advice for using compression with drums before going into the FD8 it would be greatly appreciated (ie what settings for snare, overhead condensor, and kick).

Chilled,
Above your faders on 1 and 4, make sure the switch is in the "off" mode, or pull the 1 and 4 faders down all the way. You can monitor track 1 and 4 with the knob that says" "track 1" and "track 4". Turn it to the right.

I'm not a compressor wiz, so can't help you there. Hope the above helps though.
