Midi roll

So im having a relatively large brain cramp. Does reaper have a midi roll that im just not seeing or does it not have one at all? Im using Reaper 4.61. any help would be awesome

Do you mean a piano roll? If you double-click any recorded MIDI item, it'll bring up the piano roll. If I want to enter something from scratch, I'll record a few seconds of dummy MIDI just to have an item to double-click.

Also you can select what style of MIDI note you see. You can choose lines for piano-type notes, or diamonds/points for drum-type data where you don't want to see the note duration.

yea thats what i mean. always heard it called a midi roll. thanks

Go to the menu bar and click on "insert new midi item".

Double-click on the inserted item to get the piano roll up.

If you make a selection in the timeline and then insert from the menu, the item will be as long as the selection and save you some messing around.
