master or slave?

i'm using cakewalk with a roland vs-880. i'm trying to decide which should be the master, and which should be the slave. if you know which is best, please let me know, and tell why if you can.

if you are recording from the vs880 into cakewalk, then the vs880 should be the master.

when you are doing playback only then your soundcard (cakewalk) should be the master.
