How to record Alesis dm8 usb

Hi guys, I recently bought the Alesis DM8 Electronic USB kit and I am trying to figure out how to record them. I have Sonar x1 but need some help setting it up in order to record the drums. I managed to get it to recognize the kit but when I hit the drums no sound comes out on my laptop but the bars go up in Sonar. So is there something wrong with my playback? Any help would be much appreciated!!!

Are you recording a MIDI track or an audio track?

If it's audio enable the "echo audio" function on the track. Be sure you have selected the laptop soundcard or whatever interface you are using as the output.
