Have you tried to open the manual and read a little form the chapter "Getting Started"???? Or even looking in the help-file that comes with the program??? Just wonder...

Hi Bob,
Welcome to the site man.....

I am a MIDI idiot but, I am sure there are some fellas here that can help you out here...
What I do know is that you have to map the correct signal from the correct source for each track....also, you need to set up the defaults in Cakewalk for the correct ins and outs for your soundcard....

Here is a link to a page with MIDI basics...

and all you other ya-hoos.....
Give Bob a hand.....he is a frickin' awesome writer and performer.....the real deal...a Chicago legend...

sorry to hear about the fire man....hope no one was injured....

take it easy Bob,
Joe

Us yahoo's would be glad to help, but the question is a little broad.

I actually think HMusikk pointed him in the right direction. Start with the manual and the online tutorials, and come back here when you get stuck.

I think you'll find the people here friendly and quite helpful, but we simply can't answer a question as a broad as "how do I use Cakewalk."

Also would be helpful to know what version of Cakewalk, and what is your computer setup (specs, soundcard, etc.).

Like I said....I am a MIDI idiot along with being a normal idiot as well.... :D

Bob,
It's been a while since I have used Cakewalk but, if you want to try and talk it through with me I am willing...

joerogier@comcast.net

c-ya :D

the cakewalk tutorial, like that of many software tutorials, does not speak clearly to those of us with minimal computer skills.
The terminology is vague and many assumptions are made.

I need someone to say "point this here, click this there"

Someone with some patience....

Well OK then....

Point this here. Click this there.

Somehow I don't see how that's gonna help much. :D :D

What dachay here tries to tell you is that it's hard telling other people what to click, etc.

If you don't understand the manual, may we suggest the "click n' try"-method?

well...dachay...

Excuse me...

I thought this was a place to get help..

Jerk-off !

bob
No problem. Now could you please tell me how to fix my car. I don't really know anything about mechanics. Thanks in advance.

This is a place to get help, and Dachay is the wisest man when it comes to Sonar (except me :D).

But come on, be fair! You cannot expect us to "tell you were to point and click"? If you're familiar with hardware MIDI-sequensers, just reading the first 3 pages on "Getting started" in the manual should get you going good.

I said early on that the tutorial was not helping me..

the terminology is vague and confusing..

After a few of hours of clicking and dragging and getting nowhere, I thought maybe i COULD GET SOME HELP FROM PEOPLE WHO ARE FAMILIAR WITH THE PROGRAM AND COMPUTERS.

aPPARENTLY THAT IS TOO MUCH FOR YOU TWITS TO GRASP.

tHE CONCEPT OF JUST HELPING SOMEONE SEEMS TO BE BEYOND SOME OF YOU.

i WOULD SUGGEST THAT dACHAY AND HIS FRIENDS GO BACK TO THE gOTHIC CHATROOM.

iF THERE ARE ANY ADULTS HERE THAT GIVE A DAMN ABOUT JUST HELPING SOMEONE WITHOUT BEING A SMART-ASS, I WOULD REALLY BE THANKFUL.

The rest of you...go back to the Gothic chatroom and find some 12 year olds to amuse and entertain.

Thank you

bob

Bob............

you are way out of line man.....
these fellas are a helpful lot......

most people now a days who utilize computers
for specific tasks such as recording and graphic arts do indeed have a basic computer skills established already..
perhaps this is where you need to start man...

if you want my help man,
Shoot me an E.....

Joro..

I'm sorry ..I'm not out of line...

I was working on several projects at the time of the fire..

I've had Cakewalk on my computer for quite a while..
I never got into it because the hardware was doing fine for me..

When I decided to try cakewalk, I did the best I could to self-tutor myself into working the program..

It uses alot of undefined terminology..clips, etc.

I thought coming here would save time..

I appeared just asking for help...

I am still asking for help..

It appears that some of the people here would rather be ascerbic than helpful..

that's fine...

You say that they are a "helpful" lot here..

I have not been "helped" so far...

fortunately I posted my request for help at another forum..
A young man has contacted me and graciously offered to exchange e mails about the specific questions I'm dealing with.

Now, THAT'S helpful !

Bob Young

PS thanks for the nice words Joro...
I wish I could handle this friggin' computer like I can handle these guitars !

Aw. Poor baby. Are your feelings hurt? :(

Listen a-hole, try asking a specific question and you are likely to be given an answer. "How does Cakewalk work?" is not a specific question (or even an answerable one in this venue).

Dachay...

No young man...my feelings are not hurt....

I never asked the question "How does Cakewalk work ?"

Apparently your communication skills are wanting in areas of comprehension as well as personal interplay.

As I said earlier, a very nice young person has agreed to give me the help I need..and will probably get one of my Stratocasters in return !

That's the kind of guy I am...

Go play with your friends...your constant posting to a thread where you are clearly not welcome looks like a cry for attention.
...Sad....
One more internet misfit......

Well...one day the acne will clear up and your whole world will look brighter !

Till then....

All the best

I'll tell ya' what Lou...

If I ever figure out what the Hell Cubase is...I'll probably need help then too...

I'll look you up and if I got any of these Mex/Strats left...

You can friggin' have one !

Fender gave me a couple of them after my fire...

This kid that came to me to help with Cakewalk was real nice...never asked for anything in return for the time he's gonna spend on me..

When people are nice to me...I like to repay them the same way !

So....when and if I get...what was it...cubase...I'll call you...

If the strats are gone...wouldja settle for a Tele ?
