    AKAI X2000SD Playback issue

Hello, I am new to this site and would appreciate some advice. I recently acquired an AKAI X2000SD. It is in excellent condition and even included the box with accessories (mikes, stands, take up reel, etc) My problem is that during playback the take up reel stops turning when the tape is approximately two thirds through. If I use FAST FORWARD it works fine. Can anyone tell me what the cause of this might be and the possible fix?
    Thanks!

I would venture to guess a slipping drive belt. Old, dried out, and stretched.

    Service manual......

Might be other retailers. This the first that popped up for a set of belts (scroll down the page)....
