Sound on Sound (Blend) vs Overwrite (Replace)

hi... extreme AL9 noob here.

Is the sound on sound option even available when recording midi? I can't seem to figure out how to 'add to' an existing midi loop without totally over-writing it. Seems like such a simple thing but i can't find the option. Can ya help a rusty old noob out here?

There is a plus button at the top to the right of play, it adds to the MIDI track without removing the original.
