Teac A 3440 reel to reel tape deck issue

I have the above deck and it has been in storage for a long long time. I fired it up and it appears I cannot playback when I use the playback switch. I can however playback on the sync setting. I reset the four playback cards on the MB and it improved the sync playback, but not playback. Listening through the headphones while switched to playback I can hear the recording very faintly.

    Any ideas?

Since it's been sitting so long, I wonder if the switch contacts could be corroded? Maybe a little shot of WD40 on the switch contacts, assuming you can get to them. It's a long shot, but I've had things like this happen to me on other equipment.
