Capstan Motor Switch for T688 and T464

688

Installing this switch should not be a problem.
I'm concerned about noise which maybe will be injected
in the audio path.

How would a professional electronics man do that and
what kind of switch do i need?

Thanks
Al

i want to install a switch because of noise from the motor and to
extend its lifetime.

my question for davemania, because i see you have a t688 and a t464.
i know that the 688 is a 1989 and the 464 a couple years younger.

the tape department of the 464 is much quieter and runs "smoother" plus
if you RTZ the tape speed "gently" stopps, like smooth braking.

On my 688 there is no decrease in speed before stopping plus the whole
thing is much noisier while playback, like a white noise sound.

can you confirm this or is it maybe something with my 688 belt, the "noise" i mean
not the nonexisting smooth stopping.

thanks

...

I have not had any issues nor done any mods to address this type of issue.
Even though all Portastudios make some kind of subdued mechanical noise, I don't recall anything bothersome that would cause me to worry.
I don't have either of these units up on a table to verify at this time.
:spank::eek:;)

thanks for your answer, well the 688 is not noisy per se, just the "mechanical" noise coming from a playing cassete
is remarkable louder on my 688 than 464, and i thought the 688 was Tascam High End range so i wondered.
its not that bothersome.
If I Install these switches i post pictures in here because i think its a good idea switching off
the capstan on these decks in breaks between recording.. i have seen it done on 2 machines on the web.

As i bought that 688 almost 10 years ago i used it as a mixer for only 1 channel that i was using on my home stereo.
it was powered on 24/7 for at least 2 years. motor still working
