I am thinking of getting the br 1180 without the burner because I already have a burner on my computer. How hard would it be to get the sound from the br 1180 to my computer. It is a new computer, but would I have to buy anything else i.e. a specialized sound card. Thanks.

You can take the audio outs of the BR and connect them directly to your sound card and then record the output. Now you'll have a *.wav file that you can burn to CD. Most likely the preinstalled sound card you have will be pretty basic, but will work. For higher quality you'll probably want to get a higher end sound card.
