Replacing many audio files with one batch copy?? Tricky?

HI All,

Pro Tools 9/Mac Book

Here's the deal: I have one mono track with about 4 hours of audio (this is an audio book)
I have hundreds of files with the name "roomtone" in the mix of a hundred other clips with various names
I want to replace this one file ("roomtone") with another cleaner room tone file lets call it "roomtone2"
the edits of the original file ("roomtone1") are at different lengths (1sec, 2.5sec, 0.875sec, etc.) but all stem from the same root audio file "roomtone1"

how can I replace roomtone1 with roomtone2 in one batch keeping the same exact lengths of the oirginal edits.
can pro tools replicate these edits and replace with the new file?

this seems simple but also tricky and I am not sure how to do this!!

thank you!!

You know, I'm not aware of a proper way to do this.

Back everything up if you're going to try, but if this roomtone1 and roomtone2 are the same length you may be able to fool the session by just switching the names in the session/audio files folder.

Import roomtone2 (so that protools processes it into separate left and right files), then close PT, go to the audio files folder.
Rename roomtone1l and roomtone1r to backupl and backupr

Then rename roomtone2l and roomtone2r to roomtone1l and roomtone1r (or whatever Protools recognises it as).

Worth a blast.
