Hi guys,
I'm getting a new PC that will have preinstalled Windows Vista Home Premium.
1.Do I need to upgrade to Vista Ultimate?
2. I understand that I must upgrade to Pro Tools 7.4. Do I have to install my Pro Tools 7 before getting 7.4?
3 How will I open my files recorded in Pro Tools 7?
Thank you

Please somebody tell me how you use Pro Tools 7.4. As I read more I found out you only can use Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bits, NOT Service Pack 1, but HP sells only Ultimate 64 bits Service Pack1
Thank you

You do need 7.4 to install on Vista Home Premium. It works okay, and I like 7.4 just fine, but Vista is a resource hog in comparison to XP even after LOTS of tweaking. I was much happier after I rolled the PC back to Windows XP, I was able to get more tracks open, more plugins, less system lag, etc...

You can open your older session in PT 7.4, and it will work fine. When you save them, they will turn into PT 7.4 files and it works out just fine.

You will not need to install your older ProTools, when you get the install for 7.4 that will do all the install and validation work. In fact, you will have to uninstall the older version first IIRC, so it's okay to just start with the 7.4 install.
