Multiple EQ settings on the one track - is there a better way?

Nope. Item FX are non-destructive (realtime) insert type effects attached to individual items in track view. They come before anything you see in the mixer. Not completely sure if they're automatable, but I think they are.

Yeah, automating the bypass is what I worked out on my lonesome before I posted the question... I was just thinking it seemed an unduly messy way to do it in that it creates two new envelopes and two EQ instances.

I could split the tracks as gecko suggested but as I already have pan, volume and effects envelopes on the track, that's just getting way too messy - it is one guitar take, I want to keep it that way because of those other variations I'm doing if possible. Same as printing the effects on the track, because I'm sure I'm going to change my mind about EQ once I add in some more stuff and try to mix it properly - I'm just assembling a rough mix as I go at the moment.

Never mind, my original solution works fine and seems easiest... thanks for the input guys.

And Jimmy..... you realise you almost gave Crows rep for coming up with the solution that I'd actually written in the first post.... now go back to the Cubase forum... I'll concede this one to you but for $60, I'll live with Reaper's little quirks...

A somewhat cleaner version of this would be to have 3 tracks:
1 - your original guitar with pre-eq FX
2 - EQ1
3 - EQ2
Turn off the master send in track 1 and send it to 2 and 3. Then automate the volume on 2 and 3 to mute it.

Basically the same idea I gave: copy the track (including FX), then apply 1 EQ to one, the 2nd EQ to the other, and automate volumes.

Well, that is all I want to do.......how do you do that? I understand midi and controllers, but do I need to use a midi controller to automate the effect bypass? I want to turn a delay on and off in real time as the song plays, and have Reaper record it so it will play back that way automatically.
