i'm looking to get an adat to be used primarily as an AD converter for a digi001. i want it to send the signal to the digi001 at 20 bits and 48 khz, and have 1/4" jacks on the back. which model would fit this description? thanks

None. The analog inputs on XT machines are unbalanced -10 on RCA's and balanced +4 on an ELCO connector. The HD24 has balanced +4, 1/4" connectors.

the xt is 20 bit? if the jacks are RCA, what's the best way to hook up a bunch of gear that uses TRS or regular 1/4" plugs?

The LX-20 and the XT-20mare both 20 bit type II ADATs. The LX is less beefy, the converters aren't quit as good as the XTs and only has -10 unbalanced RCAs and Lightpipe in and outs. The XT has the Lightpipe and RCAs and also +4 balanced ins and outs on an ELCO, which is a multi pin connector. You'd have to have a Snake with the Elco on the machine end that fans out into 1/4" TRS or XLRs or whatever. You could take it to a patchbay or straight to whatever gear you have.
