Why Ribbon Mics Sound Dull

but input impedence is the parallel relationship of the transmission line termination and the amplifying devices input internal resistance derived from its alpha DC (semiconductor mic pre). the generic ones have a 2K to 10K resistor terminating the input. the varible z input is just a pot connected as a rehostat with like a 150 ohm resistor in series (for example).

Well, if the variable Z feature of those pres works then there's no problem, right? You just turn it to 3k or 5k when using a ribbon. Or are you saying they don't really offer the right load even at the high Z setting?
