Sound Modules, Which one?

For my midi looking for a good sound module.Looking at the Roland JV 1010 and the EMU Proteus 2000.I want good Piano and Drums.Don't know how many drums come with these.The proteus is about $300.00 more,But is it worth it? Don't really want to spend more than $700.00.

I haven't tried out the sounds on the Proteus 2000, but I do have the JV 1010! The JV has many sounds, but "out of the box" it's light on drums. There is an expansion slot for another expansion card (<$300). So in theory, you could buy a hip hop or dance expansion card (which have a lot of drums) for the machine. As far as pianos and other instruments, they are the strenth of this module. There are dozens of very good and useable pianos (acoustic and electric)!

Judging from having played the old E-mu Proteus, I'd suspect that the Proteus 2000 has more drum sounds than the JV. Plus, the JV's about a year old (and uses sounds from the even older 2080). So if you're looking for more progressive drum sounds, the Proteus would probably have more of them out-of-the-box. All in all, it's pretty much the same, pricewise. In order to add enough drums to make the JV competative with the Proteus, you'll spend about the same in total (for an extra expansion card).
