Sonar/Sound Forge Differences

Hi Dara, welcome to the forums :)

Sonar is a professional level, multi-track audio and Midi recording/mixing program created by an outfit called Cakewalk (who are now owned by Roland).
It allows you to record music in separate tracks (guitar, piano, vocals, etc.) and then mix those tracks together, adjusting volume levels and effects on each individual one to make a finished song.

Sound Forge is a powerful audio editing program made by the folks at Sony that allows you to 'tweak' many different aspects of any audio file (EQ, Effects, etc.) and burn the finished result onto CD. It is also handy for bringing in some of the individual tracks to do adjustments.

Although you can do a lot of the same functions in each program, many folks will use Sonar for the actual recording and mixing of the song, and then use Sound Forge to fine-tune and Master the song and/or tracks before burning onto a CD.

Hope this helps :)
