Impedance

I've got a preamp with a variable impedance dial, from 150-3k ohms. I own four types of condensers. On the AKG C1000S mic the spec sheet says the "Load Impedance" = 2k ohms. The SM81 spec sheet says "Load Impedance" = 800 ohms. The M-Audio Pulsar II spec sheet says "Suggested Input Impedance" = 1-2.5 ohms. The Equation F.20 spec sheet says "Load Impedance" = 2G ohms.

1. I assume then that "suggested" input impedance is the same thing a load impedance?
2. What happens when you're either too low or too high? I really can't tell the difference by listening - is it really even that critical?

I don't think condensers will sound much different with different loading. Try changing the impedance with a dynamic mic connected.
