how do they do that thing???

i was listening to a band called "bright eyes" and in one of their songs, they do a lot of that in one ear and out the other effect thing... how do you do that? what software and stuff do you need to accomplish that in a song?
 
Basically any program that lets you control pan and automation.

its just pan fool, like on AA i would to go edit track highlight selection i wanted paned over and pan it and it would move that selection to the right or left output/
 
100% pan automation. Use the pen tool to draw squigly lines.:D
 
Panning is the clue. You can evenhave two songs going form each channel (right and left) Is thru pannel that the insturments are palced in the stereo field but you canuse it to add some "candy" to your songs.
 
He may also be referring to pong delay or reverb. I haven't gotten into software pong but most effects processors can do pong as long as you stereo mic the source. It can make for a preeetty cool effect.
 
Way to have over 300 posts and not know what panning is, that's an accomplishment.
