You could always d/l the demo's of both and check them out.
Personally, I prefer Sonar because I found it easier to understand than Cubase - and that was 10 years ago and I have such a vested interest I won't change now.
I like Sonar more than Cubase. That's just personal preference though. I've been a Cakewalk user since the early 2000s. Experiment with some other software too.
