Cello sounds too heavy?

I'd recorded a cello piece. Since I have no experience about mixing cello, I think the cello sounds too heavy and too dark. I'd cut the bass a little bit, but still sounds too "ohm". I'm afraid if I cut it too much it won't sound like cello anymore. Anyone give me some idea or trick here?

It doesn't sound too dark; it sounds too distant. The piano's fine, but the cello sounds like it was recorded in a warehouse. How'd you record it?

are you sure that's a real cello? I'm not convinced, to me that sounds like a synth.

It sounds like a synth with loads of reverb. Is it?

It does sound too distant. Back off the reverb.

Actually I recorded cello then backed up by synth strings and added a church reverb effect. As you guys just told me, I think I should back off the reverb.
