YouTube robotic voice narrations...WTF?

So what's up with the preponderance of the robotic voice narrations, usually accompanying some of the lower-grade YouTube "info-mercial" and conspiracy theory type of content....???

I first heard it on some videos that leaned toward science kind of stuff...so I assumed it was some sort of indirect nod to Stephen Hawking...
...but now those robotic voices are being used for everything that usually makes up a lot of the "made for YouTube" crap.

What's the reason for and appeal of that...?
Is it to maintain some sort of added anonymity for the people who put together these nonsense videos?

Whatever the reason, it sounds awful.

It may also be a function of editing to take out ums, clicks, false starts, mistakes and so on.

They had Rush on one of the music channels the other day...a concert from maybe 3-4 years ago(?)...and while I've never been a Rush fan, I always like to check out Pert's drumming, but as soon as Geddy Lee starts to sing, I'm done.
He has that howling screechy voice...like and old man trying send back soup in a deli ...



...but what's even worse, I can't understand anything he's singing about...it's just a lot of vocalizing.
I wonder if Pert and Lifeson have any clue either...or are they just thinking, "fuck it, let him howl, who cares, we're just here to play".

I was assuming some of them, at least, were because the videos were made by non-English speakers. But, if that's really the case, I'd rather see subtitles, and my view time is measured in seconds on those [robot voice] videos when I come across them.

Realistically most are probably mostly automated, stealing their scripts from text-based sources online.
Youtube == $$ if you have enough views.

I don't imagine these videos are any different from the sports live stream posts on here, or the viagra emails in your inbox.

If I start a youtube clip and the robotic voice starts, I stop the clip immediately and don't bother watching.
