Anyone here watching the games...?

Watching Brazil VS Switzerland right now. :)
Can't believe the shocker with Mexico VS Germany.

You asked a question directed at everyone, and I replied with my answer. You don't get out much, do you.

No...I asked if anyone is watching.
I didn't ask who isn't watching...and could especially care less if you are not watching.
Talk about not getting out much. :laughings:

In World Cup news today...
So far, 4 of the better teams only managed to tie their opponents...Spain, Portugal, Argentina and Brazil...and a fifth, Germay, lost to Mexico...though at least with Spain VS Portugal, it was a hard fight with a 3-3 tie between them. Argentina and Brazil were kinda flat overall.
That should open up some opportunities for the other teams in this World Cup, if they can get the points...maybe we might even see some real upsets. :)

lol. So, if someone asks you if you have a pen, and you don't, you just ignore them? Because - hey - they only asked if you did have one, right? /s

ok. have fun. nightynight

There's been over a hundred views of this thread...and everyone else who is not watching, understood they didn't need to post that....except you.

Thanks for playing.

In other sports news....Belgium leading Panama 3-0 with about 5 minutes to go....

You two get a room.:laughings:

I'm watching Australia v. Denmark tonight - do or die for us after the French beat us on the weekend.

I'm guessing on a forum that's largely American, you're not going to get many people watching the World Cup.

There's actually a lot of American soccer fans who are watching it. I spoke to my bro-in-law, and he said they have the World Cup on all day at his biz...so they're watching all three daily matches...we get them 8am, 11am and 2pm...I'm mostly catching the 11 and 2 games.

AFA this place...hey, when they use to run a Football thread every fall...you might see 3-4 guys posting in it with any regularity...so I don't think it's specific to soccer. Even during the Olympics...there was no crowd here talking about it. Just a general lack of sports talk.

Anyway...good luck with Denmark, I think the Aussies can take them...and then Peru should be even easier...but so far there's been a lot of upsets, and it's hard to tell who's a guaranteed win anymore.

I'm interested in the Croatia v. Argentina game. I think Croatia has a good chance to beat them...and then on Friday the Serbia v. Switzerland game  which I think the Serbs have a good shot at winning, though Switzerland really mind-fucked Brazil :laughings: so they may have grown a big pair and are looking to push through! :D

Oh...and I don't room with people lacking in basic common sense. ;)

Sorry dude...you guys managed the 1-1 tie...but not enough. :(

Meanwhile...Croatia destroyed Argentina 3-0, and moves into the round of 16, while Argentina prays that Nigeria can win or tie Iceland tomorrow, which would give Argentina a glimmer of hope in that group.

Big game tomorrow is Serbia v. Switzerland. :)

In theory we can still progress but I doubt we will. Relies upon France wanting to beat Denmark and doing so, and us beating Peru by enough to get a better goal average than Denmark with who we'd be tied on 4 points. Except we don't seem to be even getting close to scoring a goal, apart from the penalty shots.

Yeah...Argentina has the same kind of view...but it's based on some shaky reality for the last round of games in their group.
They need Nigeria to first to win against Iceland, and then lose against Argentina...and for Croatia to then also beat Iceland...
...but I think Iceland has other plans. :D

I don't think France will kill themselves to beat Denmark...other than for pride, 'cuz they certainly don't need it to advance...while Denmark knows they can help themselves a lot by winning. The tricky thing is that both games are on at the same time on Tuesday....so Denmark has to play as though Australia has already beaten Peru...and I'm sure Denmark will be keeping an eye on the Australia-Peru game while they are playing France. :)

A couple of great matches today. I watched Mexico v Sweden. That one had the wife, kids and all her side of the family pretty excited. Just saw the end of Germany v S Korea. Another stunner.

(The 3 years I spent coaching kids soccer taught me how to really enjoy the sport. Don’t watch as I used to but I’ll probably be following this one to the end.)

Germany getting eliminated as the #1 rated team and the winner of the 2014 World Cup was s shocker...but then, most of the "top" teams have struggled in this WC, some eliminated, others barely squeaking into the Round of 16, which should set up some interesting matches.
I've watched a lot of the matches the last couple of weeks...good stuff.

I'm not a soccer/football/fusball follower the rest of the time, but I use to play back in my school years, made the varsity team as a freshman, and my dad use to both play and referee a lot back in the old country...so it's always in the blood. :D

The World Cup is a major sporting event because of the 4-year cycle...and it's always entertaining. The sport is not everyone's cup of tea, especially to those who like to see constant scoring in a sporting event. Soccer is requires a lot of patience to play and watch...and the tension is what makes it exciting, waiting for those 1-2 goals that can come out of nowhere, and often in the last minutes. A couple of games in this WC were decided in the 90th minute....intense stuff. Plus...it's a non-stop game. Those guys are super conditioned to run back-n-forth like that.

I also like it because it is one of very few televised sporting events that is NOT commercial laden, with an advertisement being jammed in at every opportunity. Even when there is a foul or injury stoppage...they don't cut to a commercial. It's only during half-time.
That's one of the reasons I stopped watching American Football...just WAY too much commercialism jammed in, and they adjusted rules to satisfy the advertisers.
So you watch a 1 hour Football game that takes 3+ hours to play......and well over an hour is all commercials.

Anyway...it's going to be a crazy finish to this World Cup...no team is being viewed as the heir-apparent. :)

Another happy day here. Not the most exciting match but the results mean at least one extra öl tonight ;)

[edit/update] whew, that England-Columbia match was something! I had some SM stuff from the Swedes feeling pretty good about going against England up until the last minute of stoppage time, and then it went to extra time, and then a penalty shootout. (I think I could hear all of the UK groan when that started.) But England won! Now, I think that might be a different team.

I felt bad for Japan against Belgium...never thought they would take it down to the last few minutes with a 2-2 tie.
Their goalie had a few spectacular saves in fast succession.

England deserved the win...they were/are clearly the better team...and I was exceptionally happy to see Switzerland go down against Sweden, and I think Sweden also deserved to win.

The Uruguay - France game should be a hard fight, but I think Uruguay is showing exceptional playing consistency through the tournament.
I do hope that Belgium takes out Brazil. I'm tired of watching Neymar fall down every 15 seconds any time someone comes within 5' of him.
He may be talented...but WOW, what an actor, and he seems spoiled, expecting every call to go his way.

Of course...I'm rooting for Croatia to take it all the way. I think they have the talent and are playing very solid...not just lucky.
It might be a tough road for them though, since the rest of the teams are all pretty strong now.

The GF's trying to decide whether to stay up Saturday night and watch her team, England, play Ikea. It's at midnight, so we'll have to see how we go. I'll be barracking for the Svedes. I'd like to see Croatia go all the way too, but I don't think they will.

Belgium delivers...THANK YOU!!!

Brazil just didn't show the power of previous Brazil World Cup teams...and IMO, I was surprised the hung in this long.

I thought Uruguay would give France a better game...that was a surprise.

Now we go to tomorrow. I think the Sweden-England game should be good...and I'm still rooting for Croatia. I think they can take Russia, who really isn't a highly rated team, but hey, they managed to get into the quarterfinals...so it can go either way.
