Hi everybody,
I'm planning to find a sound stage job for one or more of this summer's music festivals in UK. I had some previous experience working with bands, setting them up and assisting recording/mastering. Time has passed and it's still on my mind. That's why the idea. I've browsed the net and only found "clean" jobs through agencies nothing of the sort I'm after. Does anybody have any kind of info/exp/guidelines as to where to head for a proper hands-on sound stage festival experience? Even little bits of seemingly insignificant info can help and are most welcome and may the God of Music praise you good people for help @_@ Jaco

You need to door knock some of the larger PA companies, often more than once. Show that you are keep for a job and you may get a foot in the door if they are really stretched at some point.

Also have a proper CV of your experience to hand them.

Alan.

Festival work in the UK is very much who you know. The PA company suggestion is pretty well the only way in. From time to time jobs appear at short notice on the blue room forum, but our summer festival scene is quite small, so the old boys network is brilliant, and very rarely do people advertise for strangers. A few universities like Derby are also proactive at getting their students into these things. Easy access to a pile of students!

Yup. The vast majority of the festivals contract their sound and light requirements to a few large specialist companies...and those companies hire their own personnel. They do tend to have regulars to fill the main positions but it's still worth sending an application and CV.

Two companies I can think of off the bat that specialise in the big festivals are Britannia Row and Entec--I'll post again when my addled brain remembers some of the others. (Both Brit Row and Entec have Googleable web sites for details.)

Edited to add a second suggestion of The Blue Room Technical Forum--there's no festival posts there now but they come out sometimes. Also, the head of the course at Derby that was mentioned is a regular poster there. (I should admit up front that I'm a Moderator on that site BTW.)
