FS: Peluso 22 251 / RME ADI-8DS / Zildjian A Custom hihats

briank

analog for the people!
I have a few items for sale. No trades, sorry. Prices are firm and include the PayPal fee, shipping and insurance in the lower 48 USA. Items are located in Oshkosh, WI 54901. Please PM with questions.

I prefer to make the pricing straightforward, hence the PayPal, shipping and insurance costs included in the prices. Those fees will be costing me about $25 on the Zildjians, a little over $50 on the RME and about $75 on the Peluso. It's just nicer to include it all in the asking price so there aren't any surprises, what you see is what you pay

  • Peluso 22-251 multi-pattern tube mic

Fantastic mic, one of my favorites. This comes with the full kit including carrying case, wood box, shockmount with good condition elastics, PSU, IEC power cord, and an upgraded Mogami 7-pin cable. Includes original paperwork. The carrying case shows a little wear from storage. The mic grill is indented on top (see pic); this is purely a cosmetic issue and is reflected in the price. Mic body is otherwise very good. I'm the original owner and this mic has worked and sounded great since day one, no issues at all.

Really hate to see this one go but I closed my studio and don't need it anymore.

Price: $900 PayPal'd and shipped in the lower 48 USA

  • RME ADI-8DS digital audio converter

This is the blueface version, does 8 channels in and out at 44.1 and 48k, 4 channels in and out at 88.2 and 96k. Balanced 1/4" analog i/o, digital i/o via ADAT optical or TDIF. BNC word clock. Very minor rash around the rack screw holes and tip top otherwise. See pics--this unit is in great shape and works as it should. Always pro studio use, kept in a shock rack case with ample ventilation above and below the unit.

This sale includes the IEC power cord and owner's manual.

Price: $750 PayPal'd and shipped in the lower 48 USA

  • Zildjian A Custom Mastersound 14" hihat pair

These were studio hats, never gigged, just occasional light studio use. Minor stick marks on the top hat, otherwise very nice condition. See the pics!

Price: $225 PayPal'd and shipped in the lower 48 USA

Tweaked the price down a little on the RME to sweeten the deal. You get 8in/8out at up to 24/48k, and 4i/o at up to 24/96k in DS mode. I always used it 44.1 or 48k, great sound with manageable file sizes. Had two of these units running in a 16i/o 24/48 ProTools HD rig, already sold the other unit. The quality of conversion someone is going to get for less than 100 bucks per channels is crazy, this was was an $1800 unit.

While we're on the subject, new price on a Peluso 251 is $1500 and a new pair of 14" A Custom Mastersound hats will set you back $375. Buy the same stuff, same sound from me for way less...gotta love it. Really enjoyed this gear but I've gotten out of the recording studio game and want my house back from the gear monster what hath overtaken it...lol!

I'm just waiting for the MCI to go on sale. :)

All in good time ;) The 1" 8-track machine refurb is complete and the machine is listed for sale (on a different forum). Need to raise more funds before I can finish off the console and put that up for sale.

What you have left to do on the console?

What thread did you have pics of it....was it somewhere in the Analog Only forum?

No, the 8tk is on a different, more slutty classified that tends to have more market for big ticket vintage stuff. I could post it here too, just lots of ads to keep track of hehe ;)

On the console I just need to refurb the VU meter lighting and do a cap on each VU buffer, get the JH-50 automation playing nice, replace a few pots, also going to add another channel to get a nice even number, then it will be tip top and on the market. Already loads of work done on that badboy, thousands of parts replaced, just tying up loose ends.

In the meantime I'm clearing out these other items.

I meant pics of the MCI....I seem to recall seeing them somewhere.

Well...I have no idea what ballpark asking price you;ll be asking when it's done....but I am still hunting for a "new" console, and haven't found one yet. Had a couple possibilities over the last few months, but they didn't pan out.

There's a guy with an MCI on eBay....he start out asking (IMO a crazy price) of about $15k....then down to $13....and I think now at $12.5k
He gets no hits.
Yeah, he did a lot of work on it too, it's a nice board....but it's just not going to sell at that price IMO.

I think I saw another recently for around $7k...?
I believe the guy only wants to do local pick-up and too far for me....but he's not getting any hits either.
Can't recall if they are the same model...and the same as your model....but their on eBay I think even now.

It's not easy to sell bigger analog consoles these days in that range. Seems the reallyh high end stuff still sells to the pro commercial market, but the good, "mid-sized" consoles that would be typical for a small studio or project studio setup...gotta find that one buyer who still appreciates that kind of hardware.

Keep me in mind...who knows, maybe I'll still be looking when you are done, and we end up being close on price. :)

I have two MCI tape machines and the MCI 600 series console. Presume you mean the console...when I first started digging in on the refurb, I started a thread here in the analog forum, search "MCI 636 story" and you'll find the thread and pics. Admittedly I left that thread hanging, got too busy. I never really did any "glamour shots," won't bother until I do the lamps and have things looking all purty. I documented some mods I did to the mix buss over on the MCI Recording forum as well.

Depends how many more channels I end up loading in it before I need to get it up on the market. Right now there are 27 channels loaded, it will for sure be 28 channels before I list it, maybe 30 depending how much I find modules for and how much work they need. I would expect somewhere around 7k give or take 500, which is a silly steal considering the ridiculous amount of work going into it. For comparison, a Neotek with old caps and "needs" would set you back more than that and not necessarily bring anything extra special to the table. Compared to other vintage stuff on the market, a refurbed MCI is a really good buy (not so much a derelict MCI, unless you have good tech skills, a couple grand, and a few hundred hours of spare time to throw at it), but for what a well fixed up MCI goes for, you really can't do better. ANY 25+ year old console will need all its caps done at the very least, and usually more.

You're probably talking about Todd's MCI 500-series. Different beast from a 600 series. The 500s are GREAT sounding consoles but they need a LOT of work before you want to try to do anything with them. I know Todd put tons of work into that 500 series and I think he's asking a fair price for it. You could compare that sucker to the SSLs and certain Neves of this world--look at it that way and a fully furbed 500 is a bargain and a half. MCI 500s and 600s may not be discrete, but neither are SSLs, Neve VRs, etc, and those go for HUGELY more money and cook their caps even worse. The MCIs definitely have their mojo working sonically and that goes doubly for ones with their caps done, and they can impress clients much the same. In my opinion they're bargains in good condition.

I think I saw another recently for around $7k...?

I don't think that one is still up there. I think you're talking about the one that had only had maybe half its caps done? That price would be high for a "halfway there" 636 but would be a good price for one with all the caps and other issues sorted out like mine will.

Depends what you're calling a "bigger" console. My shortloaded 636 frame is about 7 feet long and around 700lbs. It's a large format console to be sure, though certainly not some 12' long zillion channel megabeast. Actually the 28-36 channel frames are what are selling best. I've seen some 52 or 56-channels frames getting parted out because nobody could house a frame that big in their studios, not to mention MOVING the things. An MCI 528, 53x or 636 frame will still fit in the back of a van or Suburban with four strong people schlepping. A lot of studios are getting "digital sound" blowback and are wanting vintage consoles to warm up their digital tracks...or if the clients aren't demanding it, pro engineers are just wanting the sound to spare their sanity sitting in front of a PTHD rig all day. If any big console is going to sell, outside of the handful of mega-budget studios still standing, for most of the rest of us it's going to be these 24-36 channel large format frames. There's even a market coming back for the little MCI 618s and the similar sized little Studers because they're more impressive looking and have more functionality than the similarly priced summing boxes.

When my 600 series hits the market I'll definitely be putting it up here, Gearslutz, probably feeBay as well. You'll know about it! I'll be putting my MCI 2-track deck up here too, it's almost ready, just need to sort out a couple small parts and it's good to go, that sucker is fully recapped, resocketed, and the audio electronics are hot rodded. I'm gonna miss that 2-track deck! Gotta get the MCI 8-track deck out of here first before I can finish the rest of it though, that machine is up on the GS classifieds currently.

Incidnetally, if I can interest anybody in the Peluso 22 251, RME ADI series converter, or the Zildjian hihats listed in this thread, by all means shoot me a PM :) Everything is packed up and ready to ship to ya, prices are very competitive with all the (not unsubstantial) shipping, full insurance and transaction fees included :) I'm a highly experienced gear trader, good box packer, always smooth transactions.

I can't edit the original ad anymore, but New price on the Peluso: $875 PP'd, insured and shipped to the lower 48 USA. Great price for a great sounding mic in excellent working order with no issues other than a cosmetic blemished grille.

Can't edit the original post, but only the RME is left for sale and the new price for the RME is $725 PayPal'd and shipped in the lower 48 USA, firm and quite reasonable.

Given that the fees alone will hit me about 50 bucks, this is a great price for great converters in great condition.
