Thom, maybe I can help? What arrangement are you trying to set up?
If you're on OS with PT9 or higher (or another DAW all together), you should be able to use the two interfaces as one via aggregate device.
The echo has no digital IO though, so you couldn't run one into the other, if that's what you're thinking.

I'm running PT10 with 003 out to 8 analog channels, of my console. Would love 12 more channels of analog!

Well, after almost 6 months of sitting, the Audiofire 12 is now sold. Glad its new home is with someone from this forum. Happy tracking!
