    Wireless router question.

Hi all. Not exactly an audio question, but certainly electronics/DIY related.

I have a sky router which recently started dropping wireless transmission.
The router will work fine over LAN but wireless isn't broadcast.
If I power cycle the router, it will broadcast for approx. 1 minute.

We ruled out everything and sky replaced the router. When they did, I took the old one out and tried it as a repeater.
    (LAN in - Wireless out).
To my surprise it worked and has continued to work.

Now, If I were to plug in the phone line and try it as the main router, it will drop wireless broadcasting almost immediately.
It's not that I can't connect or signal is weak; The wireless network will cease to exist.

It's not especially important now that we have a replacement, but I wondered if I could fix it and keep it as a spare.
Does any one have any thoughts?
There are three caps where the ADSL line enters the board. Perhaps replacing them would be a good start?

It's a charcoal grey sky sagem router.

I replaced the electrolytic on the left as I happened to have a spare.
The power comes in at the left, and ADSL connector is at the right.

Don't know anything about routers! But from first principles it sounds to me like a heat related chip fault.

I would buy a few small heatsinks and Araldite them to each of the flatpack chips (I mean you are NEVER going to try to change one are you!?) That wee bit of extra cooling could keep things working.

Interesting thought, ecc. I'll fire it up as the main router out of its case and see if there's any heat generated.

It did broadcast for maybe two or three minutes without it's casing last week.........
