    I bought 1000 resistors 100 values of evilbay dirt cheap
    So far i've spent over 3 hrs sexing them.
    It doesnt help that i'm colour blind and dont have an auto ranging meter .
    So i'm checking each against a colur chart then metering them to try to establish there values and write on the little bits of tape to make it easier when assembling the bits for projects.
    Geez what a pain.
    Anyone elso do this?

    Nope. I buy mine from mouser in specific values. They come in labeled baggies.

    Of course, they never stay in those baggies, and I don't trust my interpretation of the colour codes, so I use my meter sometimes to sort things out coming off the breadboard or whatever.

    Not autoranging, eh? You are aware that it's 2013?

    Orange-orange-white would be 33000 Meg. Orange-orange-yellow would be 330K, and a common value. I would buy a simple parts drawer like so;

    .....and label them. Put the resistor in the right drawer, and double check with a meter before you solder them into anything. Usually these have drawer dividers, so each drawer holds three different values. So maybe six drawers holds 18 different values; say 47Ω, 100Ω, 220Ω, 470Ω, 1K, 2.2K, 4.7K, 10K, 22K, 47K, 100K, 150K, 220K, 470K, and 1Meg. That leaves three 'in-between' values that could match common gear you want tweak. For Fender amps; 1.5K, 15K, and 68K. Maybe swap the 220Ω for 820Ω. You get the idea.
