    Hey Bobby,

First of all I'd like to say that I'm a big fan! I love keeping up with your blog (the pieces the other week on Gotye were awesome!) and I really enjoy your books ("How to Make Your Band Sound Great" helped me a TON!).

No doubt that you must hear a lot of music from up-and-coming artists and bands trying to make it in the industry today. What would you say is the "secret ingredient" to some of the awesome songs you hear? Like the ones that really stand out above the rest? Obviously there must be a lot of stuff that just kinda sounds the same...what makes certain songs stand out to you personally?

    Thanks so much!

Wow, tough question. I guess if I knew that I'd be running a record label. Seriously though, you can't beat a song with a great hook.
