The Future of recording

Hello Bobby,

With respect to the history of recording and the migration from analog to digital ..... What do you see that is of interest for the future of recording beyond what we have technologically today?

Best,
Henry

PS. here is a question that my friend has.

Ask if there's anything he would develop that doesn't currently exist, if money was no object. I'd ask him myself, but I have a fear of rejection by ignoring.

Tell your friend that I would never ignore him. To answer both of your questions, there are a number of things that I'd love to see created:

1) A new speaker technology. The one we're still using is over a hundred years old.

2) A new microphone technology. Same thing here.

3) Find a way to get rid of any cables in the studio. Just one is too many.

4) The ultimate file format. One that's truly universal and built for the ultra-sample rates of the future.

5) The ultimate storage device. Cheap, unlimited storage, no moving parts, can connect to anything, anywhere. We're getting close in some areas but still not there.

Now see! These are the type of answers that I was looking for!

Now off to the laboratory. I've got some work to do.

Seems like the cloud has almost achieved number 5 for us.
I've often wondered if cloud based .wav music players will ever show up.
Those could sort of take care of number 4 right? .vs MP3's?
