MR-8 MIDI - more than sync
I've been using my MR-8 to play backing tracks live and was thinking that maybe the MIDI out could be used to control my POD.
Back in the day you could buy small MIDI "translator" boxes that would filter/route/transpose MIDI data in real time. I'm wondering if a similar scheme would work to monitor the timing data coming out of the MR-8 and map certain time codes to patch changes, for example. |

Page 78 of the MR8 users manual talks about MIDI and time sync events. It does not seem to say much about program change events being sent.
I'd mot sure if you can do that with the MR8, but it would be neat if one could. Ed |

I know that the MR-8 only sends timing/sync/start/stop data, but I have to believe it's possible to determine the data that's sent for a given time ("guitar solo", for example) and use that as a trigger to generate a program change message. It would definitely require external hardware, but I seem to recall boxes that would do that sort of thing - I'll have ot see if JL Cooper is still in business...
(Actually, it's probably something Fostex could add in an OS upgrade - basically one more option to the tempo map.) |
