HI, I recently completed my home studio except that I am having problems interfacing my DMT-8 to my computer. I bought a MIDI adaptor cable which runs from the parallel port to the MIDI I/O on the recorder but cakewalk guitar studio doesn't recognize the device. Any input on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Larry

To use the parallel port on a PC to transmit MIDI you're gonna need a special driver in addition to the cable.

Thanks drstawl, I kinda figured thats what I needed. When I bought the cable it came w/ the software but the drivers were for keyboard inputs. What should I look for?

What are the physical MIDI ports on the DMT-8? And who makes the cable/ SW you mentioned? I use a MusicQuest 2Port/SE
MIDI interface to convert MIDI information to/from CW or other sequencers to a full duplex data stream on the parallel port. The 2 Port/SE then takes this connection to the PC and adapts this to 2 standard MIDI ins and 2 standard MIDI outs. I've seen a more convenient box than this in a USB version. The drivers are supplied by the makers of the interface box. USB is superior because it handles a fatter data stream. And CW locks up the PC when the printer is selected on my A/B switch for the parallel port. |
