thoughts on fostex x-14 or 24?

i'm getting my very first 4 track recorder soon (with not much of a budget), and need your expert advice. any comments on the x-14 or x-24? those guys at the nearby store weren't very helpful to this newbie girl. so i'd appreciate any help. thanks!

Don't get the X14! it's a little more than a toy... No tone control.... no individual outs, and the motor is weak....(Tape speed is not reliable)...I have a buddy who also had problems with the X24? save your money for a minidisc unit or a better tape deck.
