I have only had one problem ever with my DMT-8vl. I have a 2.6 gig hard drive installed, which allows about 1 hour of recording time. But I find that if I don't reformat the drive every few months or so, I start to get disk problems (like tracks stored for more than 3 months starting to "break up" on playback. I suspect this is a disk fragmentation problem, which I can usually solve by reformatting. But it's annoying, because I lose anything stored before reformatting. I usually back up to DAT, so I don't actually permanently lose anything, but I wonder why the machine is so susceptible to these disk problems. Every time I plan a new recording session, I feel I have to reformat the disk because I don't trust the machine to perform well otherwise. Any of you have similar problems?

Unhappy

I had this problem with a cheap hard drive once. So I returned it and traded up to a Western Digital hard disk. It has performed flawlessly.
