hey what's the story on fostex's new digital recorder?? from what i read, it looks like 24 total tracks (8 playback), with ADAT lightpipe in/out only...super cheap too!! like 599 or something...anyone know anything more??

I just typed a long response and lost it somehow and I'm gonna die if I write it all again, so here's the boiled-down gist of it.

The FD-8 is cool. I love mine. You can only record two tracks at once (though you can use the mixer to boil all eight mics down to two tracks, like for drums), which bothers some people. Not me. The FD-8 good looking and fun to use. And should you buy one, do yourself a favor and forget the Zip Drive. Pay the extra $250 for the internal IDE drive because it records uncompressed, it's faster, it's quieter and you don't have to mess with an extra piece of outboard equipment.
