HOW TO TREAT A studio????????

im very sorry if this is posted somewhere else... but i looked everywhere and couldnt find it.. so i dont think i posted it before... ok here it is... my site is www.lbcstudios.shorturl.com ... i just started my studio.. dont know if its neccessary.. i haev a pic on their under media... but wat is the point on puttin foam and that up... is it to deaden alll sound in the room? if not ... wat is the goal? and wat can i use to help mine out.. its a large room... partial carpet, partial tile.. one sofa... wat should i try? i have very little cash...

You MUST read this manual first. Everything you need to know is in it. Then come back here for questions. Also, make sure you put your room dimensions and equipment/furniture layout in a drawing and post it here. Some of the wall and corner treatments you can build are actually very inexpensive and will DRAMATICALLY change the sound of your room (and your mixes). Oh yeah, forget the foam. Go ahead and check with local insulation distributors (forget Lowes and Home Depot) for Owens Corning 703 (1 inch and 2 inch) or Knauff 3 pound rigid insulation. It comes in 2' x 4' sheets. You're gonna need it.

Above all, keep a good attitude with all the guys here. They'll help in any way they can as long as attitude doesn't become an issue. Welcome aboard.

i think i must have a very poor reading comprehension... wat is the goal of fixing up ur studio like that... to deaden all the echo? or is it to let if move freely adn bounce around? and the stuff in there is kinda complex.. my parents wont let me do some of that stuf... ad very basic thing i can do to help the sound?

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply you had an attitude (which you don't). Just a heads up in case you get frustrated. We all do.

I know it seems like a lot of reading and it can seem complicated but it really is an important read. Believe me it's not nearly as hard to read as some of the really technical stuff. You may have to read it several times like I did.

The purpose of room treatment isn't to deaden or kill the room. What you want to do is "balance" the room as much as possible to reduce resonance at certain frequencies. The frequencies which resonate in your room are directly related to the room dimensions. Since you obviously can't slant or otherwise rebuild your walls you apply treatment to control the problem frequencies. These don't have to be permanent attachments to the walls either. Your parents will like that. Most important for you I'm sure will be treatment of the room corners. This is very easy, can be removeable and would run you about $30 per corner to build.

Accurately measure your room dimensions (including ceiling height) and post here so we can give you some ideas. Pull up your Windows Paint and do a rough drawing showing doors, windows, desk, etc. Don't worry about how it looks. I can't draw a straight line with a ruler
