MR-8 Reviewed in new Home Recording Mag issue

Reviewed by David Simons, the review is positive although he doesn't like the amp effects, either. I'm glad to finally see a review of the machine. As for me and my MR-8, I just recently moved mine closer to my computer at a spot I can access it easier - can't wait to start using it a lot more!

Come to think of it, I haven't seen any reviews (outside of one that claimed to be from an acoustic guitar magazine, but was really as ad blurb on Musician's Friend...)

It really is a brilliant design. Cheap, simple, non-proprietary, great sound - typical Fostex, I guess.

Actually, although the review was overall positive, I thought the reviewer didn't praise the machine as much as he could have: for instance, the performance you get from the MR-8 for the relatively low cost vs. it's older analog counterparts.

On another subject, I've sent an email to Fostex suggesting they produce an instructional video for the unit, (Boss has one for their BR-532) and they responded positively. I think it would be great to have a video available to supplement the instruction manual. What do you guys think? (not that it's a difficult machine or anything and this forum is wonderful but since the manual was written by someone who's language was not originally English, I'd like to see a 45-min. video demonstrating the features & functions.)

I totally concur. On all Fostex products. This isn't a knock on the manual, but just related to the sophistication of the gear. The VF80 has tons of features that would be more quickly usable if an expert walked you through the best way to work.

I imagine there are tons of products out there that use only 25% of their potential because the user doesn't have the ability to "trial and error" their way through everything. Start-up demo videos are great.

Without a doubt, I think every piece of equipment should have a video...

Roland/Boss is pretty good at making videos for their most popular items...

Thanks for the info, I'll go look for it.

True, I haven't seen any reviews either, I was surpised about that since it's new stuff. Maybe it's a killer to other more expensive stuff...(conspiracy! )

I read the review, didn't have much info, didn't buy the mag. It didn't say much more than what the basic features are. You get tons of info here on hrbbs, too bad they didn't quote any of us.

I wonder if they really even saw it in person. It's a very hot new item, why was it way in the back of the mag? It's gotta be better than any cheap 4-track for a similar price.

You're Right, It is a Conspiracy! What do most Music Mags have more than actual useful information? Advertising! It's too bad Fostex doesn't spend as much as some other companies. At least someone reviewed the MR-8 finally! I think this is the one most important piece of gear I've even bought. That's including Guitars, Amps, and Drum Machines!
