Samplerate Problem

I am tracking some parts for a friend who runs a DIGI001.
He has given me a stereo wav file from PTLE in 24/48.
I start a new session in SX set the samplerate to 24/48 and inport the wav. It doesn't ask to convert so the rate must be correct.
However when I play the session in SX, it plays low and slow.
If I sample back to 16/44.1 it's fine. But I want to record in 24/48 so I can give him a file that will plug straight back into his PTLE session.
Any ideas??

well sounds to me like HIS file isnt really in 48!

There is no doubt that his file is 24/48. That was the first thing I thought of. So I checked it out in Soundforge, and Winamp also displays the bit and sample rates while it's playing. They both said 24/48.

well, if in SX, the project in witch you import the file is really in 24/48 (project / preject setup), then, sorry I dunno why it can do this.

Maybe someone else can help!

Your system clock is at 44.1. You play back a 48k file, it plays slow. You have to match sample rates.

well thats the way you match the project's sample rate, lke you need it!

I dont understand what's going on.

If you open this damn file in Wavelab or Sound Forge or (etc), does it play like it should?

if it does, mybe you should try to save it with an other name, and then create a completely new SX project, be sure to be at the appropriate sample rate, and import the new wav file yo made.

here's the thing i don't understand - you say it plays back "low and slow" at 48, but correctly (faster, higher) at 44? that is the opposite of any sort of sampling problem this could possibly be. something just doesn't sound right here. it sounds like you're playing back a 48khz filewhile the master clock is somehow incorrectly set at 44Khz. you said it plays back correctly when set to 16/44... perhaps at that setting some sort of automatic sample rate conversion is happening.

OK problem solved.
It was in my soundcard settings (RME DIGI96/8)
The "Clock Mode" needed to be set to Master, not AutoSync.
All happy now.
