Cut Capo Users?

Has anyone tried, or made their own cut capo?

I have, and it has inspired some very cool new musical ideas.

I like to use a full capo at the 3rd fret, plus the cut capo at the 5th.

The one I made frets like an Esus4 chord if you put it on the 2nd fret, which means you can play an Emajor chord with just one finger.

I'd like to make another one, I'm curious if anyone has suggestions or links about it for which spots to cut out on a second one, for other interesting sounds.

I"ve done a little of that. I also have a capo called the 3rd hand which you can select which strings get capoed. So for standard tuning, you could have capoe'd and open strings. But if you play a barre chord, it's all standard. And all of the notes pretty much stay the same.

I saw a guy once who had several Kaiser capos, and each one had little opening drilled out for different strings to fit through. For example, he had one that capoed the A to E strings, but not the low E, so he could capo and the second fret and get a "dropped E" tuning. He had others drilled in different spots to let other stings through.

It was pretty cool, but how he managed to drill those "half-holes" out I'll never know.

I was talking about one of these

I tried to pick one up at G.C. , but they said it was special order, so I made my own, since I had two regular kyser capoes already.

And yes, I like to use that "Drop E" tuning too, I just put a regular Kyser Quick change capo on upside down, and leave the E sting open, then play in the key of E like it's D (for instance : D=E, G=A, A=B, etc.).

I've seen Phil Keaggy use 2 capos but had no idea about what strings he notched out and all, plus he uses a lot of alternate tunings too.

What I was wondering was if anyone else had used the shortcut, and wanted to exchange ideas of how to use it.

It's really a lot of fun to see what kind of new sounds you can get, and to try playing old songs you lready know, with the new voicings.

yeah, i don't see why you have to cut one. I've seen guys doing 1/2 capoing with shubbs before. I've used my shubb on some strings and my kaiser on the others. I really like my 3rd hand capo because I can basically do the same thing, but more specific... ie.. capo the middle strings.

Here's a link for the Third Hand Capo, if anyone's interested

I cut mine so I could form the Esus chord, like they show in the picture of the Shubb near the bottom of the page.

Did you order your Third Hand or pick it up at the local store?

I want two.
