Anyone tried taking a live recording...
...and adding backing after the fact?
I ran across a guy who can sing AND write, and am looking for the best way to come up with some nice recordings. Culling things down, there are two options - producing stuff ala Nashville and having him record his vocals, or grabbing his live vox/acoustic performance off the board and adding 'live' bass/drums to the original recording (Michelle Shocked, anyone?) Thoughts? |

Pulling off the board usually works well. I've done that before with a simular situation. Later added more guitar and drums/bass and got a pretty good result.
