Motif blunder

Having done a search thru the archives I can't seem to find a similar question or answer so I will ask.

My Motif plays fine in stand alone but when connected to my puter thru midi output into my soundblaster I get random errors in play. Various notes are suspended but not all. Without the pedal. Certain lower notes are played in the upper ranges and suspended.

When I disconnect from the midi conncetion everything play fine. So I am thinking it has something to do with the "echo" or playback of the machine in connection with midi itself.

Do I have a setting wrong?

Is the thing malfunctioning? (I doubt it.... at this point I blame most things on SOE-stupid operator error)

If you can help I would greatly appreciate it.

Sounds like the a midi loop.... The MOTIF sends midi into computer through the puter back into the MOTIF a million times over. You can set things up to not do this but I wouldn't know how with a MOTIFand don't know your software.

Since we're on it...

Does a MOTIF send midi over the USB port? I don't think it does does it?

How about the newer EX line?

Bludongle, ,

you're on the right track. I can't remember the menus for the Mo as I sold mine months ago, but I had the same issue & fixed it within the Motif. Keep searching, you'll find it. Somebody with a Mo may post on here, too. If not, post on the
http://www.motifator.com site - You'll get an answer.

I'll take a quick glance at the manual & see what I can see after lunch. I'll post my findings. Hope it'll help.

What software are you using on your computer when you have this problem?

Lazi,

the Motif does send & receive midi via usb, and the ES does as well. Some people bitch about it, but it worked flawlessly for me for months...

When you have a keyboard hooked up to a sequencer via midi you have a midi loop going on. The way to correct this is to go into your keyboard global settings and turn LOCAL OFF. This will turn off local control of the sounds from the keyboard so that only sounds looped through midi are being played. It can add some slight latency to your playing but it usually is unnoticable.

The only other alternative is to unhook the midi IN to the keyboard or turn off MIDI input on the keyboard while playing.

Yeah, what he said...
Are you sequencing in w/your motif or with software on your pc?

>>That's why I'm asking.

Check pages 24-25 in your manual.
