Yamaha Md8

Anyone had to repair a insert 1/4" type plug on the MD8 before?

I'm starting to get the "loose hole" effect.

Not really wanting to pull this unit apart either!

I have never done it. Replacement could be easy or hard depending on how it was mounted and where it was mounted. Id take it to an authorized repair shop and just pay the bucks rather than risking damage to something that might cost even more to fix. I had to replace one on a Yamaha MT120 eons ago and paid a plumbers rate for expedite.

anyone else noticed the "white noise"?

it's confusing...now adays you can get new crap, it's hard to pay an unknown repair man, taht may or may not fix it?

I hear some "white noise" on a few channels too?
who's gonna fix it for $35? only cost $325 in 2000

I love the unit compared to 4Trac cassettes, easier to use than the computer=portable, and easier than the roland880 type units which were just too much shift/ctrl/ spin knob/ shift exit/press enter
....just to turn the treble up! only to get MEMORY FULL ERRORS!!

for the negative compression press,
haven't met anyone yet that can pass the blindfold test between MD and CD!!....specs...schmecs...Radio Crapshack specs say their microphones are as good as the Pro's!

i'm done venting...i love the MD format...

Arrow Cool, cat!

The MD-8 was really one of a kind! It was packed full of user-friendly features and design.

nick6572 is on a distinguished road
I like my MD8 also. I did have a hell of a time last week trying to record a rock band. I have only used the direct method in the past and got good results. Last week I needed more than 8 tracks and tried to use the "group" method so I could bounce down the drum tracks. I had all sorts of trouble. Is anybody else having trouble with the group method besides me???

speaking of sound on the MD8

after reading this forum...
recently i went and got a pre-amp & reverb which I have never heard of pre-amps really making a difference before. all the articles read and microphone swaps I've done...geeezzzz, it's embarrassing.

now I hook up this little tiny presonus pre-amp, TC Electronic M300...route AUx send to Left M300, Aux 2 to right M300...bring it in on 9/10....
The SM57 into the Pre-amp...output into the 1/4 with the Yammies mic/gain to line....and whooaa...what a fhkn difference!!!

I'm thinking, how did I miss this all these years?
Guitar Center must have a return mic list on me a mile long...

Pre-amps....
Next goal....DMP3 Pre-AMps, SP B1 mic, RNC compressor, TC M300 (or LEx MPX200?...i still got 24 days...heeee,heee
