Copper Shielding

Has anyone tried using copper shielding to shield the guitar from monitor interference, or just interference in general?

Noise and hum are caused by electronic devices interfering with your guitars signal path. Devices such as computer monitors, light dimmers and flourescent lights all cause interference.

I have seen people try to fix the problem by using aluminum foil and magnetic paint, but the best method, IMO, is copper tape.

My personal thought is to apply this copper tape to the back of the pickguard (Strats) and to the back of the control cavity covers on Gibsons.

I used to buy my copper tape from Carvin, but you might want to check out the following website for some great ideas:

They offer pickguards that are already shielded as well as bulk sheets of copper tape.

I noticed a real difference when I shielded my original single coil Stratocaster. Noise was greatly reduced.

Copper is the best for shielding.

I shielded two of my guitars with copper tape.... control cavities and pickguards. It does work, but it's not going to make a single coil into a humbucker. There is still noise there, which is disappointing at first (you expect after this big taping job that all the noise will be gone). But if you compare recordings between the pre-shielded and post-shielded guitar, the difference is noticeable and significant.
