input too loud

my guitar is way too high when i use it with sonar. i know its just sonar because i use it with other programs and it works fine. all i get is EXTREME distortion so much that i can't even tell wich note i'm playing. is there anyway to lower this?

i'd like to change my previous post. after importing a old guitar track i did on another program it still did it. so it must be an output problem.

Cool

Well, I was abut to suggest you check your sound card's mixer settings...

Usually if the input signal is being boosted by too great an amount, or if your output faders are set too high, you'll get distortion of the signal going to the speakers.

What brand/model of sound card do you have? Does it have a graphical display or meters that jump up and down during replay?

Are you running any effects? Have you tried turning down the mains or the Guitar Track to see if that stops the distortion?

So it sounds find when playing back in Windows Media Player?

Have you tried running the Wave Profiler? ...assuming you are using Sonar.

I asked 3 questions... so nothing happened at all .. when doing what?

Also, which program did you record the guitar in initially, and at which sample rate/bit depth?

Cool

OK Chief,

I've done a bit of Googling and found that there is a Crystal Audio on-board audio card used on IBM Aptiva PCs. Am I on the right track here? Crystal Audio is an audio division of Cirrus Logic.

To help us solve your problem it would have been of some help to Porter and myself if you'd been more specific regarding your system & audio card.

On what equipment was the original guitar track recorded?

How was it imported onto your Sonar PC?

Have you installed the latest audio drivers pertaining to your current operating system?
