MP3 Question

This belongs mainly in the Sonic Foundry Forum but:

How the hell do you convert a .wav into an .mp3 in Vegas Pro or Sound Forge 4.5?

I can't figure it out.

In Vegas Pro you "mix to new track" and while selecting a name and a path to give the file you select .mp3 as the format (among .wav, .mp3 or .aiff) and then select which flavor of .mp3 you want to generate. Any active tracks using all active plug-ins are mixed into the .mp3 file. Be sure to reload the .wav file into a new project if there are other tracks in the current project that extend past the duration of the track you're trying to convert. Otherwise VegasPro will insert an annoying silence at the end of the .mp3 file. While both Sound Forge XP and Vegas Pro recognize .mp3 files, only Vegas Pro will handle them properly.

That's what I thought, but the only choice it gives me is AIFF. What's up with that? And yes, it's the Pro Version 1.0

Check your version # and build #. Earlier builds left out mp3 conversion as they were going to sell it separately as a pricey plug-in. I've got 1.0a, build 177. You can get the upgrade patch free from their site.

Well never mind. I don't have a serial #.

Well never mind completely. I just found-out I lost the entire program (which was downloaded to mt PC from a "legit" CD of a friend's) when I tried installing the upgrade (and I have no way of getting a hold of the friend for a long time).

I was preparing for a "surprise" for the homerecording.com BBS.
